AIDS-Free World welcomes the new UN women's agency

- Will the Secretary-General be up to the job of making it work? -

September 15, 2009 (New York) — Yesterday the UN’s 192 member states unanimously passed a resolution establishing a new UN agency for women, giving Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon authority to immediately appoint an Under Secretary-General to lead it. This is a truly memorable moment.

Boston, USA – March 6, 2009 - The Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Honourable Bruce Golding, is helping AIDS to spread in his country. Two days ago in Parliament, he again made questionable remarks about gay men, and proclaimed that he has no intention of liberalizing the “buggery laws” in his country.

International Crisis Group Is Wrong on Amnesty for Mugabe

Aghast over an influential NGO's plan for Zimbabwe, AIDS-Free World issued a press release saying amnesty for the ruling party "would be illegal, irresponsible, and sexist."

AIDS-Free World Launches Legal Investigation into Campaign of Violence Against Women in Zimbabwe

Systematic rape of women and girls increases risk of HIV infection

August 7, 2008 (Mexico City, Mexico) - AIDS-Free World today announced that it is launching a legal investigation into crimes against humanity occurring in Zimbabwe. Beginning in the run-up to the June 27th elections, women and girls have been subjected to a wide range of sexual violence including gang rape, beatings, torture and the threat of HIV infection as part of a campaign of violence against the political opposition. The victims have sustained severe physical and emotional trauma.

AIDS-Free World's Legal Director Noah Novogrodsky issued this statement at the XVII International AIDS Conference in Mexico City.
