In an address to the UN General Assembly on 21 June 2007, the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations addressed Member States, saying that "Clearly, our gender architecture is in desperate need of a complete overhaul... This Assembly is faced with an historic opportunity: a chance to equip our Organization to adequately respond to the needs of the world's women. For their sake, and for the sake of all humankind, let us seize the day." Read the full statement here. |
