Adjust text size

To change the text size, click on the 'Adjust text size' button next to the search box in the top right-hand corner of the website. Once you've clicked on 'Adjust text size', a new panel should appear. On the left side of the panel, you'll notice six small buttons. To increase the size of the text, click on the '+' (plus) sign.  To decrease the size of the text, click on the '-' (minus) sign. If you click repeatedly on the '+' sign, the text will keep increasing in size. Similarly, if you keep clicking on the '-' sign, the text size will keep decreasing.

To return to the default text size, click on the button with the square.

Adjust Page Width

To change the page width, click on the 'Adjust text size' button next to the search box, in the top right-hand corner of the website. Once you've clicked on 'Adjust text size', a new panel should appear. On the left side of the panel, you'll notice six small buttons. To narrow the width of the screen, click on the first button on the left (two arrows facing inward). To widen the size of the screen, click on the second button with the image of two arrows facing outwards. To return to the default screen size, click on the 'Default' button with the two vertical lines.

Spotlight

The 'Spotlight' section on the homepage uses Flash to switch between articles every few seconds. To turn off this feature, press the 'Pause' icon next to the arrows above the Spotlight box. When Flash is turned off, the articles can be switched manually, but will not change on their own. To resume, please press the 'Play' button next to the arrows.

Send an article to a friend

To send a link to an article or page to a friend, simply click on the 'email' icon (a picture of an envelope). The form will ask for your friend's e-mail address, as well as your name, e-mail and a subject line.

Using social bookmarking sites to share articles

You can share articles on www.aids-freeworld.org with others using social bookmarking websites:

  • Step 1: Select an article you'd like to recommend to others.
  • Step 2: Click on one of the icons listed on the page of the article you'd like to share. You can share articles with any of the following sites: Digg, Reddit , Del.icio.us , Facebook , Slashdot, Technorati , StumbleUpon , Newsvine , Furl , Yahoo and Ma.gnolia .
  • Step 3: If you're not already a member, sign up for an account. If you have an account, sign in.
  • Step 4: Each site will walk you through how to share an article. On some sites, such as Facebook, you can send the article directly to other Facebook users, or post it on your wall. On other sites, such as Newsvine, you can set up a list of your favourite articles for others to see and even write a column / opinion piece about current issues. Each site is different — pick the one you are most interested in and start spreading the word!

RSS Feeds

RSS stands for 'Really Simple Syndication.' By signing up to receive RSS feeds, you can keep track of the latest news on your favourite websites. Here's how it works:

1) Click on the orange 'RSS' button in the bottom right corner of the website.  A new page will open, and you will have the option to subscribe to AIDS-Free World RSS Feeds through Live Bookmarks, Google, Bloglines, Yahoo, or another application of your choice.

2) Choose one of the options from the drop-down menu:

  • If you choose 'Live Bookmarks': If you select the 'Live Bookmarks' option, a small orange icon and the words 'AIDS-Free World' will be added to the toolbar of your web browser. By clicking on the icon, you can have instant access to the latest articles from the 'Spotlight' section of the AIDS-Free World website.
  • If you choose 'Google': There are two ways to use RSS Feeds through Google: 1) You can add the feed to your Google homepage, so that whenever there's a new article, you'll see a link to it, or 2) You can use a 'Google Reader', which is basically a special inbox created specifically to keep track of your RSS feeds. You'll need a Google account for both.
  • If you choose 'Bloglines', you'll be taken to www.bloglines.com , a website created to keep track of news feeds. You can create your own account and sign up to receive feeds from any number of websites. Creating an account is easy — all you need is an e-mail address and password. Once you've gained entrance, you can click on the box for 'AIDS-Free World' at the top of the page to add the news feed to your list.
  • If you choose 'Yahoo', you will be able to view the RSS feed on your Yahoo homepage. You'll need to have an account and be signed in to complete the process.

 3) The RSS feeds from the AIDS-Free World site will contain the articles and postings listed in the 'Spotlight' section of the website.
